Fly Fisherman Functions Meets Fashion
Date:August 25, 2010
true to size
If you're into functional pieces of gear, this jacket is for you. If you're into that classic vintage look that brings back memories of you and your dad going out fly fishing at the nearby creek, then this is also for you. Made out of a tough waxed cotton with a slightly oily finish, not only is the jacket water resistant, but it also captures that worn, aged look--due to the rather unique nature of this particular type of time-honored fabric--right out of the package. That's a garment with a sort of character that will only get better with each use. As for functionality, the jacket features a multitude of pockets on the front as well as the back. With a quick zip at each shoulder, you can easily turn your jacket into a vest for those hotter summer days. And for those rainy ones, you can always flip up the detachable hood for that extra bit of protection. The only possible problem with the jacket is the lack of adequate neck coverage on the front. There the zipper only reaches to about six inches from the top of the sternum and the base of the neck, sacrificing protection from cold, wind, and rain in an effort to stay true to the vest styling. The jacket is otherwise decently warm with at least a flannel shirt and/or sweater, and for the most part, will keep the elements at bay.
Pros: well designed, functionable, vintage look, modular
